The main concept consists of an Upside down Pyramid shaped Cell or Tube. The roots are forced down to one spot, where the air prunes them. Upside down shapes are the only shapes that correctly air prune. (Note the hole at the bottom must be a square).
Left: Notice how both the Viro-Cell (left) and the Viro-Tube (right) promote downward root growth. As the roots reach the sides of the cell they grow to the corner, and at this point they are forced to grow down. The roots then grow down until they reach the bottom of the cell. At that point the roots reach air, and this is where they stop growing. Because there is no lip at the bottom of the cell or tube, they cannot spiral. Beware: most so called root pruning cells have a lip and therefore do not prune correctly. Viro-Cells and Viro-Tubes do not have a lip. So when grasses or wetland plants or other fibrous root plants are involved, play it safe and use Viro-Cells or Viro-Tubes.
Trees & shrubs can also utilise the benefits of Viro-Tubes. Notice how the tap root on the Viro-Tube grows straight down, whilst the root on the flat bottom tube spirals.
Two old tubes. The Viro-Tube is still plant able as the roots are still pointing down, ready to grow where the water is, down deep. The flat bottom tube on the right has spiralling roots, which will never really take properly.
Older more advanced Viro-Cells still have a great downward root growth. This is important for when a project gets delayed, which unfortunately happens more times than not. Viro-Cells and Viro-Tubes last twice as long as conventional cells and tubes.
