Pennisetum alopecuroides 'Purple Lea'
'PA400'

An environmentally friendly Australian native. Excellent for attracting native birds. With a low viability of seed, this form is non-invasive to native bushland.
If you require colour and don't mind a larger plant, then Purple Lea is
the ideal plant for you. This plant must be grown from division due to
its low viability of seed, thus giving you piece of mind that it will
stay where it is planted.

Description: A showy clumping perennial grass with arching leaves and spectacular feathery flower plumes from Summer to Autumn. The feature of this variety is its elegant purple flower heads.
Position: Tolerates a wide variety of soils and climatic conditions, including poorly drained soils. Frost and drought tolerant.
Uses: Mass planting, accent plant for rockeries and borders. Low maintenance gardens. Plumes suitable for dried arrangements.
Care: Mulch well. Trim to 1/3 the size preferably in April/March or when required. Fertilise with a slow release fertiliser in late Winter.
Don't
be
Confused!
In this photo on the left is the native non invasive Pennisetum alopecuroides. On the right we have the highly invasive African variety of Pennisetum setaceum. Unfortunately many people often confuse the native for the exotic and vice-a-versa.

Please note the seed heads are purple not the foliage.
